Bhaktiratna Sadhu Swami
Q. How to identify true and false humility?

A. Shrila Jiva Goswami states that real humility is to think oneself insignificant even though one is very advanced. Normal humility is to accept the fact that one is fallen when one is actually fallen. And false humility is to pretend to be humble outside while one is is critical of others inside. But even that pretension of false humiltiy is beneficial as it helps us to gradually become really humble. Shrila Swami Prabhupada used to stay that one should pretend to dance if one does not feel like dancing in Kirtana and one will slowly start dancing with happiness. And finally the answer is that it takes one to know one. Only a devotee who is really humble can know another devotee who is actually humble.

    Swamiji,

We are told that we should be humble only while dealing with devotees of the Lord. But while dealing with others there is no harm in being tough, street smart.

But Swamiji, it is difficult to behave in different ways with different kind of people. If one is humble , no matter who he is dealing with , he will remain humble.

Also, in the world where we are living in, being humble is seen as sign of weakness.

So how should be our behavour with those who are enemical to the Lord. Recently while browsing Nitaaiyoga site a friend of mine came and showed me an article about why people believe in God. According to the article, God is figment of our imagination. The friend then asked me "After reading this do you think we should believe in God?". I politely told him I am not very keen to argue on this. I again begin reading articles in Nitaaiyoga site. But internally I was angry , disturbed.

Swamiji, the world is full of such people. People like me are drowning, making honest effort to reach you but there are so many people who are dragging us not allowing to reach you.
